What is free
Everything. Scoring, saved rounds, the course catalog, nearby groups, games, and the social features. There is no feature that unlocks when you pay, because there is no paying.
- No subscriptions. No monthly fee, no yearly fee, and no billing surface anywhere in the app.
- No paid feature gates. No capability is locked behind a purchase.
- No advertising. No ad networks, no sponsored posts, no tracking SDKs.
- Your data is never sold. Not sold, not rented, not traded. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is stored.
How this is paid for
By voluntary contributions. Nothing else is accepted. A contribution buys no feature, no priority, and no influence over what gets built — otherwise it would be a paid tier under another name.
This is not a promise that the project will run indefinitely. MeshGolf makes no claim of revenue, profit, or financial sustainability. The commitment is narrower and can actually be kept: for as long as the project runs, it stays free for users and the source stays open.
How the rule is enforced
A policy nobody can check erodes one commit at a time. So automated tests read the shipped code, not just this page.
- No payment or advertising library may appear in the app's dependencies.
- The backend may expose no billing, subscription, or payment surface.
- No page on the site may offer a plan, a price, or an upgrade.
- Every third-party UI dependency must carry a permissive licence. A library with a paid tier gating the parts MeshGolf uses is permanently out of scope.
The source
The source is public. Course data carries its provenance and licence all the way into the app — OpenStreetMap is ODbL, and the Icelandic scorecards are credited to Rástímar.is and GSÍ.
